At the 10th International Summer School on AI and Big Data, Dr. Mariam Hassib will talk about Exploring Human-AI collaboration: Decision Making, Reliance, and Trust

Talk: Exploring Human-AI collaboration: Decision Making, Reliance, and Trust

This talk explores recent research in the design of human-AI decision systems from the perspective of human-centered AI. We will focus on overcoming the challenges of over- and under-reliance on AI, emphasizing the fragility of trust calibration and its impact on decision accuracy and user satisfaction. We will discuss future directions in designing AI systems that augment human cognitive processes, enhance human agency, and increase decision efficiency, rather than replacing human judgement.

Bio

Dr. Mariam Hassib is currently a senior researcher at fortiss research institute in Human-centered Engineering (HCE). The HCE team leads applied research in human-centered AI, especially targeting supporting SMEs and industry professionals, focusing on exploring Human-AI collaboration supporting decision making, evaluating AI systems, and investigating trust and reliance on AI. Before fortiss, she was a postdoctoral researcher in the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich researching topics in usable security and privacy. She has obtained her PhD in Media Informatics from the University of Munich (LMU) where she focused on building and evaluating communication technologies based on physiological sensing.
