As the next step in our close collaboration with Taiwan institutes, Dr. Siavash Ghiasvand and Dr. Markus Wolfien met up with colleagues from the China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) in Taiwan. The meeting is part of our initiative on AI in Medicine and follows up on the Online Symposium on AI and Medical Science hosted by ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig in July.
As part of this visit, Dr. Ghiasvand and Dr. Wolfien met the team of the Big Data Center at CMUH. In particular, they talked about their successful data deep cleaning projects. Together, they tackled important subjects such as data governance in Taiwan and in Saxony, as well as molecular tumor boards. Taking a deeper look into how interdisciplinary projects are formed in both sites, LifeKidney was presented as a successful role model project.
The meeting lay a particular focus on data privacy, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and artificial intelligence (AI). Furthermore, they discussed successful approaches in synthetic medical data generation, and potential methods for sharing medical data. Another key topic were the various potentials of generative AI, including the application of Large Language Models (LLMs) in improving:
Since CMUH has its headquarter in Taichung and is connected to multiple branches in Taipeh and other cities in Taiwan, our colleagues had the chance to visit different facilities, including the children hospital and the cancer center.
Looking forward, we’ll be building on the great synergies among both teams. We’ll proceed with our future plans to strengthen the collaborations between Saxony and Taiwan. This meeting was co-happening with a visit of Saxony’s prime minister, Michael Kretschmer to Taiwan.
