Workshop on AI in Education for the Dresden Police
Transfer and Service

On 26.11.2024, Dr. Siavash Ghiasvand and Dr. Hermann Diebel-Fischer conducted a workshop for the Prevention Department of the Dresden Police, focusing on the application of Artificial Intelligence in educational environments and for young people. The workshop consisted of two main parts. First, Dr. Hermann Diebel-Fischer provided an introduction to generative AI for the colleagues from Dresden Police. He covered key topics, such as:

  • What is generative AI?
  • How are AI models trained and which data sources are being used?
  • What are the ethical implications of using generative AI?
  • How can generative AI be deployed responsibly?
  • In which domains could generative AI be misused? Which scenarios should one be aware of?

Dr. Siavash Ghiasvand then demonstrated how various (open-source, free, and local-running) generative models for text, image, and video can be effectively utilized in educational settings. He presented practical examples of how these models can assist teachers in lesson planning and engage students in creative projects, while also discussing potential misuse scenarios to raise awareness of the associated risks.

Overall, the workshop provided the participants with a comprehensive insight into the opportunities and challenges presented by generative AI in education. While there is great potential to address the various educational needs of students, awareness and responsibility in the use of these technologies is needed to promote safe and effective practices among young people.
