ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig welcomes Dr. Marina Litvak as the third Ada Lovelace Distinguished Research Fellow. For the upcoming months, she will join ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig, continuing her research on multilingual text analysis, knowledge extraction from text, text summarization, social network analysis, and AI-assisted software engineering.

About Dr. Marina Litvak

Dr. Marina Litvak is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Software Engineering at Shamoon College of Engineering. Over the course of her career, she has published more than 120 scientific papers in international journals and leading conferences. In 2026, she has joined ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig as the third Ada Lovelace Distinguished Research Fellow. In regard of her visitiing position, Dr. Marina Litvak says:

“The Ada Lovelace Distinguished Research Fellowship is an exciting opportunity to pursue research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, information retrieval, and natural language processing while building long-term international collaborations. What particularly attracts me is the fellowship’s emphasis on scientific excellence combined with societal impact.

Across my research topics, including offensive language understanding, personalized text simplification, information retrieval, and AI-assisted software development, I investigate how contextual information can be extracted, represented, and integrated into AI systems to improve their reasoning and decision-making. Although these problems appear different, they are connected by a common scientific challenge: enabling AI to understand not only data but also the context in which information is created and used. This fellowship would provide an exceptional environment to advance this research agenda by collaborating with leading researchers from complementary disciplines. I am particularly interested in developing context-aware AI systems that improve the accessibility, trustworthiness, and effectiveness of intelligent technologies in education, software engineering, and information access“.

Beyond advancing her own research, she sees the fellowship as an opportunity to contribute to an international research community, establish new interdisciplinary collaborations, and mentor the next generation of researchers.

First Lecture: From Understanding Language to Assisting Humans: Context-Aware AI for Communication and Software

On August 6, 2026, Dr. Marina Litvak held her first lecture, titled “From Understanding Language to Assisting Humans: Context-Aware AI for Communication and Software”, in Dresden. Around 20 participants joined the lecture at TUD Dresden University of Technology, offering a warm welcome.

The lecture looked at the evolvement of AI into increasingly capable assistants for complex human tasks. However, many limitations of modern AI systems can be traced to an insufficient understanding of context. Whether interpreting language, adapting information to individual users, or supporting software development, context is essential for producing reliable results. Together with the audience, Dr. Marina Litvak therefore looked into three application domains of context-aware AI:

1. Multilingual offensive language analysis
2. Document-level text simplification
3. AI-assisted software development

She concluded with future research directions in trustworthy retrieval, adaptive reasoning, human–AI collaboration, and intelligent software engineering. The participants asked many questions, mainly around the progress of AI, its quick changes, and how to adapt research. The lecture successfully kicked off Dr. Marina Litvak’s research stay in Dresden.

I believe that I will gain rich experience for my future career and contribute to ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig and science. I am also very excited to live in Dresden and enjoy its beauty and culture,” she says.
