The Data Week 2024 will take place in Leipzig from April 15 to 19 and will once again be co-hosted by ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig. It is the networking and exchange event for highlighting scientific, economic, and social perspectives of data and its use, where industry, citizens, science, and public authorities can enter into dialogue. The event aims to bring together experts from different fields to share their scientific, economic, and social perspectives on these topics. It also promotes Leipzig and the Saxony region as a hub for IT and skilled workers.
The week-long program covers topics such as data, digitalization, artificial intelligence and urban development challenges and focuses on different issues every day. It includes various formats such as Leipzig Semantic Web Day, several hackathons and datathons as well as trainings and workshops, which are organized by the participating scientific and transfer institutions ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig, Institut für Angewandte Informatik e. V., as well as eccenca GmbHand the Data Competence Center for Cities and Regions DKSR.

As part of Data Week 2024, ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig is offering the following hands-on sessions and trainings for interested scientists, students, and especially non-scientific users:
Dr. rer. medic. Robert Haase (ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig)
In this hands-on session, we will work together online on a project on github.com. We will show how to share and collaborate on data, especially source code. The aim of the exercise is to give participants a feel for how they can use tools such as git, git pull-requests and git issues to manage small and large software projects online.
Dr. rer. medic. Robert Haase (ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig)
We will dive into the world of Open Science and define terms such as Open Source, Open Access and the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reuasable). We will discuss how these methods of [scientific] communication and data management are changing the world and how we can practically integrate them into our work. Aspects such as copyright and licensing will play an important role.
The data management session will take a closer look at the life cycle of data. How is data created, what happens to it when it is processed? Who owns the data and who is responsible for publishing, archiving and, if necessary, reusing it? We will use ChatGPT to design a data management plan. After an introduction to the topic, we will work in groups. The training is only available to employees of the city and can be booked externally.
Registration for the sessions on Monday and Thursday is done when purchasing the Data Week Leipzig tickets via the ticketing system.
You must purchase a ticket to attend Data Week Leipzig. Students can secure a discounted ticket at dataweek2024@fu-confirm.de. Data Week will provide a limited contingent.
