Quantification of Gap Length in V-Shaped Dental Fillings Using OCT Images

In collaboration with the dental clinics at Leipzig University Hospital, a new imaging technique—optical coherence tomography (OCT)—is to be tested in the context of dental fillings. The OCT technique uses light to look inside the tooth, thereby making the condition of fillings visible. Deep learning will be used to determine whether fillings are still firmly attached to the tooth or whether gaps have already begun to form, and, if so, how large these gaps are.
