FameLab in Dresden: Victor Jüttner inspires audience with talk on cybersecurity
ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig

On April 27, 2025, the East German regional heat of FameLab, an international competition for science communication, took place in Dresden. At Staatsschauspielhaus Dresden – Kleines Haus, 12 early career scientists provided the audience with interesting insights into their research. The challenge? The candidates have only 3 minutes to present their own research or a freely chosen scientific topic. Victor Jüttner, PhD student and researcher at ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig, was one of the speakers.

Victor Jüttner: Cyber security in the smart home

In his talk, Victor Jüttner explained why smart household appliances are hacked to carry out DDoS attacks. These attacks aim to paralyze websites or servers through mass requests. Jüttner’s research focuses on detecting such attacks in the smart home by analyzing device communication. In an emergency, he uses ChatGPT to generate security messages that explain to residents step by step how they can stop the attack and secure their home again. Learn more about his research here.

FameLab

FameLab is an annual international competition for science communication, which has been held in Germany since 2011. Students and early career scientists in more than 20 countries go on stage to talk about science. Topics can be provided from a number of scientific fields, including social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, computer science, psychology, or medicine. This year, Dresden was the venue for the East German regional heat. The event was organized by DRESDEN-concept and Dresden Marketing.

We congratulate the winners of the East German regional heat of FameLab:
