Events

On 11.06.2023, ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig took part in Offenes Regierungsviertel 2023. We welcomed many visitors at our booth in the foyer of Sächsisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft, Kultur und Tourismus (SMWK).

The exhibition was very well visited, with visitors ranging from preschool to elder ages. In the afternoon, our team also had the honor to welcome the Saxon Minister of Science, Sebastian Gemkow. We want to take this opportunity to thank all visitors for the engaging discussions and hope to welcome as many of them as possible at the Living Lab soon. A great opportunity for visitors would be the upcoming Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften in Dresden or Leipzig.

Demonstrators

At Offenes Regierungsviertel 2023, ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig introduced visitors to a variety of the center’s research topics. For this, our team has prepared a total of of six demonstrators, ranging from machine learning to image segmentation topics:

asanAI

asanAI is our in-browser, no-code machine learning toolbox. It enables everybody to design, train, and test simple machine learning models all on their own.

MultiCut

This demonstrator is a gamified version of the NP-hard problem multicut, in which visitors can solve various multicut challenges on their own, from simple drawings to photographs of the Frauenkirche in Dresden.

Reinforcement learning

This demonstrator consists of two self-driving cars that use reinforcement learning to keep themselves between two lines only using a normal camera input. Visitors could interact with the cars or even hide the tracks, so that the car lost the track. Afterwards, the car looks around and eventually will find the track again.

Building floor counter

This demonstrator identifies the number of floors of a building using an image (aerial, front or bird-eye-view) as well as image processing techniques.

Handwritting detection

On the surface of a tablet any sentence can be written down. A pre-trained machine learning model will then identify the written text and transform it to a string of characters.

Rock-Paper-Scissors

Visitors also had the chance to play the famous game of Rock-Paper-Scissors against each other. Using a pre-trained machine learning model the hand gesture could be detected.

Offenes Regierungsviertel 2023

At Offenes Regierungsviertel 2023, Saxons were invited to the ministerial buildings in Dresden. There, they could learn more about the various issues and tasks of Saxon state politics. This year, Artificial Intelligence research was one of the main topics of the yearly event. ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig is thankful for this great opportunity to share research highlights with the public and engage in wonderful discussions.
