AI and Medical Science – Saxon-Taiwanese Collaboration
Research

On July 11, 2025, ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig organized a joint symposium on AI and medical science in collaboration with the Taipei Representative Office in Germany, the Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus of TU Dresden, and the China Medical University Hospital (CMUH), which more than 50 experts joined. The symposium served as a follow-up on our previous meetings in February 2025 and October 2024. The overarching aim is to stregthen the bilateral collaboration between Saxony and Taiwan on the topic of AI and Medicine.

The symposium startet with opening remarks by:

  • Prof. Jhy-Wey Shieh, Representative, Taipei Representative Office in the Federal Republic of Germany
  • Dr. David Michel, Head of Division, International Relations, Development Cooperation, State
    Chancellery of Saxony
  • Dr. Der-Yang Cho, Superintendent, China Medical University Hospital
  • Prof. Esther Troost, Dean, Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus, TU Dresden

Afterwards, the participants split up for topical breakout sessions, which focused on three topics:

  • Biomedical Data Science and Machine Learning
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Prevention – Merging TCM / Alternative Modalities with Conventional Approaches

Each breakout session was joined by representative speakers and participants from both Taiwan and
Germany – and the outcomes of each session were shortly summarized. Building up on that, respresentatives of TU Dresden and the China Medical University Hospital discussed possible future cooperations.

The symposium showed that there is a lot of common grounds to cooperate in the future, while also being able to learn from one another. The participating experts will now be able to establish further discussions. We thank all participants and are looking forward to further collaboration opportunities!
