Data Festival strengthens exchange and network on artificial intelligence and data beyond Leipzig’s borders.

Leipzig, 06.05.2023: Data Week Leipzig is growing and expanding the networking platform created last year with new cooperation partners and event formats. To be visible beyond the Saxon state border, the Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI) e.V., ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig and eccenca GmbH have joined the new partner Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). From June 26 to 30, 2023, they will organize the Data Week at the New City Hall Leipzig together with the Departement „Digitale Stadt“ of the City of Leipzig as well as collaborators of the CUT – Connected Urban Twin project. The focus of the event week will be on the topics of digitization, data, artificial intelligence, and urban development challenges. In particular, the importance of international data spaces for climate protection strategies and measures will be highlighted.

On 26.06.2023, Data Week Leipzig kicks off with a focus on Europe, showcasing European digital strategies and innovations for sustainable and resilient development. As discussions continue around data spaces in different sectors, speakers on 27.06.2023 will present challenges cities face in adapting to climate change. The day is themed „Freeing Data! Skills and Tools for Climate-Adapted Cities.“ The CUT project and other projects of the city of Leipzig will show how data from different data sources can be combined and how, among other things, the use of digital twins can provide important insights for urban development. In addition, various players from research, administration and business will present their solutions and initiatives for shaping sustainable and climate-friendly urban development. Participants of Data Week Leipzig can learn more about the concepts of data spaces, urban platforms, and other technical solutions, as well as exchange ideas that follow FAIR principles and ensure that data remains discoverable, accessible, interoperable and reusable. Formats like the 11th Leipzig Semantic Web Day, ScaDS.AI trainings or the KMI Consortium Meeting will again be part of the event week. New formats such as Data Science Mania, which will take place on 28.06.2023, complement the conference program. The Competence Center „Künstlich Menschlich Intelligent“ (KMI) is also organizing the working conference „Artificial Intelligence Development for a Resilient and Sustainable Tomorrow“ from 29.-30.06.2023. The goal of this working conference is to bring together researchers to discuss the environmental, social, and economic impacts of the design, development, and deployment of AI in Industry 5.0.

Moreover, the organizers, together with stakeholders from the city of Leipzig, are supporting formats that are intended to appeal not only to the industry and science community, but also to a broad, interested public. Hackathons, panel discussions, workshops and other exciting event formats are planned for this purpose.
