United by Science: Dresden Science Night 2024

14.06.2024 // SCADS

On 14.06.20224, the Dresden Science Night 2024 took place – and ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig once again happily offered a diverse and interactive program. Visitors gained insights into research at the science location Dresden by participating in lectures, presentations and various hands-on activities. Of course, our center lay the focus on Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science topics.

Program

Lectures

Two interesting lectures were contributed to the program of Dresden Science Night 2024 by members of ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig:

Living Lab

At the Living Lab, the motto “United by Science” came to life: Besides presenting our own demonstrators to visitors of all ages, we were happy to also host two demonstrators by the Immersive Experience Lab, which is supervised by Prof. Dr. Matthew McGinity:

  1. With the demonstrator Circuit Flowfields, the processes of a computing cluster are visualized as a projection in the format of a server cabinet. It showcases the relationship between the number and size of processes in different research fields within a cluster. The audience gets an insight into what is being calculated at any given time.
  2. The Sand Table simulates a swarm of ants finding their path among the hills and valleys of sand. Visitors can directly change the sand formations on the table, as well as tuning the behavior of the ant swarm via the touch screen.

Once again, the Living Lab was very well visited at Dresden Science Night. This year, we were therefore thankful to be able to extend the exhibition to the corridor in front of the Living Lab.

Hands-on Activities

Furthermore, our principal investigators and team members presented their work in a variety of open formats at the individual chairs at the respective faculties at TUD Dresden University of Technology:
