ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig has launched a new initiative that creates room for connection, visibility, and support in AI: the Women*Network. It’s a space for women in AI and data science to connect, share experiences, and support one another in a field where they’re still often underrepresented.

The idea was born out of conversations within the ScaDS.AI Graduate School in Dresden. Several researchers felt the need for a space that went beyond project work. While research collaboration happens every day, there isn’t always room for open conversations about the social, structural, and professional challenges that disproportionately affect women in science and tech. And when you’re one of just a few women on a team, those exchanges don’t happen naturally.

The goals of the network

This network is here to change that. It’s not just a place to talk. It’s a space to build connections and create visibility. The focus lies on four things:

  • open exchange around challenges and solutions
  • peer support and networking across teams
  • raising the visibility of women in AI through outreach and events
  • and inviting guest speakers to share ideas and spark discussion.

How it started

The first discussions started earlier this year, during a breakout session at the ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig General Assembly in March 2025, the event that brings together all researchers of the center for exchange and discussion. That initial momentum led to the launch of the network and its first official meeting on May 13.

Since then, about 20 women have joined or taken part in the first few meetings. The network isn’t only for ScaDS.AI members but open to anyone in a similar field who wants to join.

Looking ahead

It’s still early days, but the response so far has been energizing. If you’re curious, interested, or just want to see what it’s about, you’re more than welcome to join.
