Rosetta Commons Bootcamp on Machine Learning 2025 at UC Davis

Rosetta Commons Bootcamp on Machine Learning 2025 at UC Davis
Research

From November 17–21, 2025, Anne Schmieder represented ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig at the Rosetta Commons Bootcamp on Machine Learning hosted by the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). Organized and sponsored by the Rosetta Commons foundation, the workshop brought together young scientists from around the globe to explore the forefront of computational biology.

The Rosetta Commons is a unique international collaboration of over 100 academic laboratories. Unlike traditional competitive research environments, these labs share a single, unified codebase with the mission to master the language of proteins. This collaborative effort powers the Rosetta software, a premier suite for modeling and designing proteins, RNA, and DNA to address global challenges in health and sustainability.

The Rosetta Commons bootcamp focused on equipping participants with advanced machine learning tools and Rosetta-based solutions. Through a series of hands-on exercises, the participants explored the software’s capabilities before applying them to a final capstone project. In this practical phase, Anne Schmieder worked within an international group to modify existing protein structures and design new ones from scratch, applying their newly acquired skills to real-world practical examples. In addition to the intensive technical training, the workshop served as a vital platform for international networking and cultural exchange. By participating in this event, ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig continues to strengthen its connections within the global protein design community and foster the application of machine learning in the life sciences.
