Computer science serves as a nexus with natural sciences, economics, humanities, and medicine.

Together with ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig and other specialized research facilities, the computer science study programs at the Leipzig University are particularly focused on Big Data, artificial intelligence, as well as interdisciplinary research in fields such as biology, natural sciences, medicine, and humanities. ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig lays important groundwork and develops advanced AI methods for the efficient utilization of mass data. Furthermore, our competency center explores the impact of AI on society. The professorships involved in ScaDS.AI participate in the Data Science program and enable students to participate in current research projects. A professional specialization takes place here in the data science areas of scalable data management and data analysis with data mining and machine learning methods.

In addition, Students of the Leipzig Institute of Computer Science can therefore benefit from the interdisciplinary research approach in various ways: bioinformatic or Earth system data science and remote sensing students learn to make predictions and conduct research related to earth and environmental changes, as well as RNA and protein structures. Digital Humanities emphasizes on addressing the new challenges that humanities and social sciences confront in an increasingly digitized world. This approach equips students to undertake innovative data science tasks with an interdisciplinary perspective, and to efficiently tackle problems across various sectors of the economy, science, and technology.

As ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig, we are pleased to provide significant support for the topics and teaching of computer science at the university with our interdisciplinary research work.
