Topic:
Big Data 2.0 Processing Engines: The Time After Hadoop

Over the past decade, the MapReduce framework, along with its open source implementation Hadoop, has gained significant recognition as a highly successful platform for big data processing. It has become the de facto standard in the field, generating substantial momentum. However, in recent years, both academia and industry have started acknowledging the limitations of the Hadoop framework in various application domains and big data processing scenarios, such as handling large-scale processing of structured data, graph data, and streaming data. Consequently, there has been an unprecedented interest in developing new solutions to address these challenges. This has led to the emergence of a new wave of specialized big data processing engines, which we refer to as “Big Data 2.0 processing systems.” In this presentation, we aim to provide a comprehensive taxonomy and analysis of the state-of-the-art in this domain. Additionally, we highlight the current open research challenges and explore promising directions for future research.
