At the 10th International Summer School on AI and Big Data, Prof. Alena Khmelinskaia will talk about Building functional protein Legos with de novo protein design.
Recent computational methods have been developed for designing novel protein assemblies with atomic-level accuracy, yet several aspects of current methods limit the structural and functional space that can be explored. For example, the underlying perfect symmetry and hyperstability limit their packaging capacity while and damper their application as delivery vehicles. I will share with you our ongoing efforts in developing strategies to diversify the structural repertoire of protein assemblies and gain control over their assembly dynamics.
Alena Khmelinskaia received her PhD in Physics from the LMU München for her research work at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry. She moved to the University of Washington as a postdoctoral fellow before taking up an Argelander Junior Professorship at the University of Bonn. Since 2023, her lab moved to the Chemistry Department at the LMU München, where she holds the W2-t.t. Professorship for Biophysical Chemistry.
