21.10.2022 // SCADS

From October 16th to 21st 2022, researchers from the Image and Signal Processing Group of Leipzig University took part in VIS 2022: the world’s largest visualization conference. ScaDS.AI Principal investigator Prof. Dr. Gerik Scheuermann and scientific researcher Christina Gillmann were part of the group.

Program

Our researchers had the opportunity to meet international experts, share interesting discussions and present their work on an internationally renowned platform. Furthermore, Christina Gillmann and Daniel Wiegreffe moderated the spotlight on „Application Papers: How should we deal with them“. International experts on applied visualization research were invited to discuss the meaning of application papers. Those experts included Prof. Dr. Anders Ynnermann (Linköping University), Dr. Thomas Wischgoll (Wright State University) and Dr. Helmut Doleisch (CD-adapco).

After the conference, Prof. Dr. Gerik Scheuermann and Christina Gillmann continued their trip to Arizona for further collaboration meetings. In between work, there is always time for a bit of fun. Therefore, on their free day they visited one of the most well-known world heritage sites in the USA: the Grand Canyon. Safe to say, this surely was a trip to remember! Very soon, our researchers from Dresden will be visiting the USA for another conference: The International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis in Dallas, Texas.

VIS 2022

At the conference, universities and industry partners gave insights into recent findings on the design and use of visualization tools. The conference program offered a diverse range of symposia and co-located events, i.e. Visualization in Data Science, the VIS Arts Program, Visualization in Practice and Data Analysis challenge competitions, and more. True to the motto „VIS ’22 is about the people you meet“ the conference took place on sight.
