In this talk, we cover the evolution of modern natural language processing and the role that generative models play in this process. We discuss information decomposition for natural language processing, the concepts of semantic and stylistic information and possible applications of these concepts. We try to illustrate the talk with several case studies from the field of computational creativity and outline possible further development of the field. We also suggest why effective semantic representation could form a key bottleneck to transfer NLP ideas to the field of computational biology.
