Digital Presentation:
Argumentation Technology

Argumentation technology aims at enabling machines to understand argumentation in natural text. Argumentation technology uses Machine Learning models to extract arguments from natural text, classify their stances into pro and con, and rank them. Applications of argumentation technology include supporting humans in building unbiased opinions and writing support. The talk will be divided into two parts: argument mining and argument ranking.

Bio

Yamen Ajjour is a researcher at Leipzig University who is using Natural Language Processing methods to analyze controversies on a Big Data scale. Before moving to ScaDS.AI, he conducted research in computational argumentation that is motivated by use cases such as decision support. His Ph.D. thesis targets developing methods to address controversial topics in search engines. His research contributions are mainly in mining arguments from natural text and modeling frames in argumentative text. Yamen was awarded the Best Paper Award at the German Conference on Artificial Intelligence (KI 2019) for his work on argument retrieval.
