Data Week is a week-long event in Leipzig that focuses on data, digitization, AI, and urban development challenges. The event aims to bring together experts from different fields to share their scientific, economic, and social perspectives on these topics. It also promotes Leipzig and the Saxony region as a hub for IT and skilled workers. The event includes various formats such as Leipzig Semantic Web Day and ScaDS.AI Trainings, which are organized by the participating scientific and transfer institutions Institut für Angewandte Informatik e. V. and ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig, as well as eccenca GmbH, the DBpedia Association, and the Agile Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web network (AKSW).
Data Week 2023 – The Second Chapter in our Data Week Story
Following on from the successful conference week in 2022, the networking platform that has been created will now be expanded and developed through cooperation. The content will highlight scientific, economic and social perspectives on data and artificial intelligence.
New partners in 2023 are the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and the Competence Centre Artificial Human Intelligent, which is organising the Working Conference on Artificial Intelligence Development for a Resilient and Sustainable Tomorrow. The new partners aim to highlight the importance of international data spaces for climate change mitigation strategies and actions.
ScaDS.AI Trainings at Data Week 2023
As part of Data Week, ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig is offering three days of Data Science training for interested scientists, students, and especially non-scientific users. Within teaching and training, both technical and methodological priorities are set. The technical focus includes tools for data analysis, distributed computing, and machine learning such as R and Python. On the other hand, the use of tools with the help of containers and virtual machines plays a role. The methodological focus includes instruction in methods of data analysis, statistics, and machine learning. The following trainings are offered as part of the Data Week Leipzig 2023:
- Monday: Data Visualization (4 hours)
Data is a relevant resource in today’s science and economy. Their representation in the form of diagrams and plots lays the foundation for analysis, communication as well as the generation of new hypotheses. In the course, theoretical aspects are taught together with practical experience in R using the established package ggplot2. In addition to the hands-on tutorial, participants will be shown typical problems in data visualisation that often occur and sometimes even lead to misinterpretation of data.
- Wednesday: Training for employees of the City of Leipzig
This training is tailored to the needs of the employees of the City of Leipzig and focuses on teaching data skills – in particular on data types and structures, on various analysis methods and the use of the Python programming language for data analysis. In addition to theoretical and practical basics on all aspects (first part, morning), data analysis with Python will also be taught using practical examples (second part, afternoon). Registration is only available to employees of the City of Leipzig.
The training sessions will take place on June 26, 28 and 29 and will be held with a maximum of 20 people per session. Registration is done when purchasing the Data Week Leipzig tickets via the ticketing system.
