History

Our Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence has been founded in 2014. In the beginning, it was a national center of excellence for Big Data research called ScaDS. Since 2019, it has been expanded into one of the German centers for Artificial Intelligence (AI). Since then, it carries the name ScaDS.AI (Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) Dresden/Leipzig and is funded within the German government’s AI strategy framework. Furthermore, the Free State of Saxony supports the center by establishing several new AI professorships at both locations.

Based on our history, we aim to close the gap between the efficient use of mass data, advanced AI methods, and knowledge management. In addition to new Machine Learning and AI methods, topics on trust, privacy, transparency, minority protection, and traceability of AI-driven decisions are key. In 2022, the Center’s research program has undergone a transformation and is now institutionally funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
