We welcome Dr. Veronica Witte as an Associated Member

ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig proudly welcomes Dr. Veronica Witte as an associated member. Following her presentation on August 7, 2025, our Executive Board unanimously approved her admission as an associated member. In this position, Dr. Witte will closely collaborate with ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig and work on joint projects based on her research.

About Dr. Veronica Witte

Dr. Veronica Witte studied Biology and later Neuroanatomy at the University of Bielefeld. In 2007, she completed her doctoral thesis “Dynamic changes in the development of prefrontal networks: neuroanatomical findings” and received her Ph.D. in Neuroanatomy from the same institution. She conducted her habilitation work, titled “Impact of obesity, diet and metabolic changes on brain structure and function” in Experimental Medicine at Leipzig University.

From 2014–2021, she functioned as a Junior Group Leader at the “Omega-lab” at the Department of Neurology at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig. In 2021, she became Group Leader at the ‘Omega-lab’ in the Cognitive Neurology at the University Medical Center Leipzig and lecturer at the Medical Faculty of Leipzig University. Furthermore, she’s a guest researcher at the Department of Neurology at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig.

Since August 2025, she’s an associated member of ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig. Here, her research will focus on the gut-brain axis, aiming to explore novel applications of xAI in biomedical research through new collaborations within the cluster. Her group offers novel tools for explainable AI in neuroimaging and beyond. Dr. Veronica Witte is eager to discuss the integration of further imaging- or -omics-based outcomes with the community. In addition, she’s interested in open science. She also focuses on in guiding early-career researchers in the vibrant environment of translational neuroscience in Leipzig.

Associated member of ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig

ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig grants associated members to selected PhD scientists and professors who have a strong connection to the research focus of the center. Prerequisites include international research activity, a high interest in cooperation, and the willingness to contribute own research work to our center. ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig supports its associated members in networking and in the development of joint projects. This status also allows participation in internal general meetings, lectures and conferences.
