Since 2015, the competence center ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig organises a yearly international summer school.
These events on current AI and Big Data topics do not only reach for a broader and more international crowd of participants but also for internationally renowned speakers. For example, with more than 250 registrations from North and South America (USA, Ecuador, Brazil), Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Norway, France, UK, Romania, Ukraine), Asia (Russia, India, Thailand), Africa (Morocco, Turkey, Iran) and Australia the ScaDS.AI Summer School of 2020 achieved a great international outreach and better participation than in previous years with 70-100 participants.
Due to the COVID situation in 2021, we continued our previous, established summer school program as an online-only event, but as an autumn school. The event aimed at graduate students, PhD students, researchers working in the areas of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. During the online program, we offered inspiring insights into different research areas by internationally recognized keynote speakers. In addition to some highlights from our center, there were also presentations by researchers from the network of German AI competence centers.
Thematically, we did not only focus on AI and Big Data methods from a computer science perspective, but also offered an alternative from a legal and societal perspective on the impact of AI and Big Data methods on science and societal processes.
The format of these events offers the opportunity to exchange ideas and make new contacts with other participants and speakers.
