From June 30 to July 6, 2018, the two in Germany based Big Data Competence Centers ScaDS Dresden/Leipzig and BBDC organized the 4th International Summer School on Big Data and Machine Learning in its summer school series. The summer school took place at the University in Leipzig.
Program & Highlights
Prior to the summer school, there was a “streamline” hackathon for hands-on development of an application for real-time analytics of streaming data. The Hackathon focused on the practical application of stream-based event processing. The challenge was to pick one or more real-time data sources and build real-time analytics workflows or tools, which improve strategic planning or decision making. Then a summer school jury selected the best hackathon results. The Institute for Applied Informatics at the University of Leipzig e.V. (InfaAI) endowed a price of 500 Euro for the winning team.
The topics of the main program of the summer school included:
- Deep Learning
- Data Mining in Stream Data
- Machine Learning for the Sciences
- Declarative machine learning with Apache SystemML
- Confidentiality and Integrity of Cloud Databases
- Visual Analytics for Big Data
- Cypher-based Graph Analytics on Spark
- Web-scale information extraction
- Big Data Integration
- Big Data and HPC
Next to the scientific program, the summer school hosted several social activities such as a city walk and a dinner in a traditional restaurant.
