Digital mobile classroom tours Saxony’s schools

26.02.2024 // SCADS

A digital mobile classroom (DigiMoK) to promote education around artificial intelligence, coding, and robotics has been touring Saxony’s schools since mid-January. In cooperation with ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig, Helliwood media & education im fjs e.V. is using the digital classroom to offer various programs and workshops for pupils. It aims to arouse curiosity about future technologies and support teachers in the digital transformation of their schools.

The tour of schools in Saxony started on 15 January and will continue until the autumn holidays in 2024. A total of 27 schools will be visited during this period. The Digital Mobile Classroom will spend a week at each of the registered secondary schools. In a unique learning environment, the DigiMoK will offer a range of workshops for students in Years 5 and 6, giving them hands-on experience of artificial intelligence, coding, and robotics. Teachers will also receive training on these innovative topics and how to integrate them into the school day and interdisciplinary STEM education.

“Digital learning needs to be part of everyday school life. Our schools need support to do this. The Digital Mobile Classroom will get students excited about the technologies of the future and show teachers how these technologies can be taught practically in the classroom,” said Minister of Education Christian Piwarz, who emphasized that the project is primarily aimed at strengthening schools in rural areas. The Ministry of Culture is funding the project with a total of around €492,000 as part of the Digital School Initiative.

As a cooperation partner, ScaDS.AI is involved in providing demonstrators as well as content for workshops and gives students insights into current research topics. In addition, researchers advise the project and provide technical expertise.
