Expert Interview with Marie Eichholz on the calibration of clouds in climate models

21.05.2024 // SCADS

As part of the Digital Mobile Classroom (DigiMoK) project to promote education around artificial intelligence, coding, and robotics, expert interviews have been conducted with our researchers in collaboration with Helliwood media & education. In the coming weeks, we would like to present you with an expert video every week. As the videos are in German, we will use the blog post to contextualize them and describe the research of each expert. The fifth video in our series features Marie Eichholz on the calibration of clouds in climate models.

How can artificial intelligence (AI) help us better understand the weather? Marie Eichholz uses an experiment to show how clouds form in a bottle. She explains that clouds are important because they act like a blanket, keeping us warm or protecting us from too much sunlight. But understanding clouds is complicated because they are so different.
Marie is working to make weather and climate forecasts more accurate using artificial intelligence. AI can run through many situations and better assess how clouds behave. The goal is to improve our weather forecasts.
